Key Specification – SyncML

Hopen SyncML module, follows OMA SyncML 1.1.2 standard. compliant with the industry-wide data synchronization protocol, defines the workflow for communication during a data synchronization session when the smartphone is connected to the networked data
repository. It brings many benefits to each group as follows:

End Users:
They can synchronize with a broader range of data by using devices with SyncML.

Device Manufacturers:
SyncML, a common protocol, Makes mobile phones interoperable with plenty of applications, services and network
and transmission technologies.

Service Providers:
They can use a single solution for data connectivity to deploy and support their customers in a cost-effective way.

Software Developers:
They can develop applications connecting to a more diverse set of devices and networked data.

Feature List:
Operate effectively over wireless and wireline networks
SyncML can be used with these wireless networks, which share common features of high network latency, limited bandwidth, relatively high packet costs, and low reliability of both data and connectivity.

Support a variety of transport protocols
HTTP1
WSP
OBEX
SMTP, POP3, and IMAP
Pure TCP/IP networks
Proprietary wireless communication protocols

Support arbitrary networked data
Common personal data formats, such as vCard and vCalendar
Collaborative objects such as e-mail and network news
Relational data
XML and HTML documents
Binary data and binary large objects

Enable data access from a variety of applications
Programming language independent.

Address the resource limitations of the mobile device
A small footprint and processor requirement gives the protocol several key advantages, such as easy to implement
on all processor and operating system platforms, reduce mobile phones manufacturers' cost of adoption, etc.

Build upon existing Internet and Web technologies
These existed technologies ensure easy implementation and interoperability testing to SyncML

The protocol's minimal function needs to deliver the most commonly required
Synchronization capability can across the entire range of devices.
